38th Annual Buddy Holly SXSW kickoff Bash!

2024 Tues. March 12th 7pm

38th Annual Buddy Holly SXSW Kickoff Bash

Dear Friends -It’s that time of the year again - please join us Tuesday March 12th from 7 to 10 PM at the fabulous 5th & West lobby space, 501 West 5th Street, ATX 78701, to raise awareness and funds for the work of The Buddy Holly Educational Foundation at our Annual Buddy Holly SXSW Kick Off Party. The Buddy Holly Foundation builds on Buddy’s legacy by promoting musical education for young people, in cooperation with the Texas Heritage Songwriters' Association, and their Texas Songwriter U program. Raising funds for these worthy 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations at our Annual SXSW Kick Off Party supports musical education for young people in Texas and across the country for years to come!

Buddy Holly 2024 SXSW Kickoff Bash Showcase:

Jack Harris

Jack Harris translates our shared emotions into words. His songs tell vivid stories spun by an overactive imagination and inspired by his experience with love, anxiety, heartbreak, and hope. His unfiltered expression asserts that there is bravery in voicing your insecurities and emotions. This drives him to write captivating verses and memorable hooks. Having supported acts including Tai Verdes, Lawrence, COIN, and K-Flay, Jack has proven his natural ability to win over audiences. His passion for performance goes beyond the stage, as Jack is making his screen acting debut as Eddie Cochran in the Eddie Cochran documentary, “Don't Forget Me,” currently in production by award-winning UK film group Goldfinch. After playing at Glastonbury '23, Jack was a Foundation scholar at the Foundation’s Chris Difford Songwriting Week. Jack’s latest song is blowing up on social media just as SXSW gets underway, he’s one to catch.   https://jackharrismusic.info/

Edison Chair

Edison Chair is a rock ‘n’ roll sextet known for their high-energy performances, catchy songs, and smartly crafted harmonies. Edison Chair dazzled ATX’s crowds for years, building a reputation as one of Austin’s best live acts before calling it a day a few years back to pursue solo projects.  As a favor to the Foundation, Rachel Thompson and Ellen Gruber (lead vocals), Martin Aker (vocals and lead guitar), Wes Armstrong (drums/percussion), and the band will reunite for one last fiery triumph, so fasten your seat belts! https://www.youtube.com/@EdisonChair

Grace Pettis & Robbie Hecht

Grace Pettis is intoxicatingly authentic and a wholly original dynamic singer-songwriter, and Pettis’ ethereal, one-of-a-kind sound refuses to fall neatly into one category.  Ms. Pettis has won NPR’s Mountain Stage New Song Contest, the Kerrville Folk Festival “New Folk Winner” award, and the Wildflower Festival Songwriting Contest Grand Prize and Audience Favorite awards.  Ms. Pettis tours extensively, both as a solo artist with her own band, and with her side project, Nobody’s Girl, hailed last year by Rolling Stone Country as a “promising new trio”. Grace will be joined by tour mate Robby Hecht who has been captivating audiences as a touring singer-songwriter for over two decades, combining quietly impactful songwriting reminiscent of Tom Waits or Jim Croce with the graceful vocal resonance of James Taylor. With a remarkable blend of insightful lyricism, memorable melodies, and a voice that carries both strength and tenderness, his music resonates with audiences from all walks of life.  https://www.gracepettis.com/  &  https://www.robbyhecht.com

Sisi Berry

The music scene at Texas A&M changed as Sisi Berry introduced a soulful, bluesy style of music to mesmerize audiences. Sisi left A&M for Europe, learned the wine business, busked like Foundation Ambassador Ed Sheeran, and then returned to ATX to make her way in music. As she says "I love the spirit of Rock and Roll. I love the guts it takes to sweat your ass off while belting and I love how it makes people move. More than anything, I think, I love that. You can see them feel it. And that changes the whole show. Been playing in this city, working in this city, and calling it home for many years now. Getting the opportunity to play the 2023 ACL Festival as an Austin musician gives me insane pride and the deepest gratitude.” Sisi brings more energy than a dozen other musicians to her amazing music, and this fiery Latina will bring it to the Buddy Bash and SXSW with a full band!  https://www.youtube.com/@SisiOfficialMusic
